23/02: Mental Health due to Drug Abuse
Whenever people are addicted to any kind of ecstasy drug- be it any street drug, alcohol, nicotine an any such thing, it certainly brings certain health impacts on them. Apart from that, those people will inevitably experience certain mental issues and changes, as they feel less motivated, aggressive, anxious, irritable or depressed. They face problem to mix up with people, deficiency of enough money, finding it hard to adjust with people and often they experience some changes in their looks as they may lose or gain weight. The fact is that when people are addicted to drugs and alcohol for the long term, some kinds of mental illness is developed within them. Approximately 8.9 million people in the United States are suffering from mental health due to drug abuse.
How drug abuse affects the mental health
The fact is that any kind of addiction and mental illness go by hand in hand. While in some cases this kind of disorder occurs due to medicine abuse problem, some cases show drug problem occurring the mental illness. When a person has a predisposition to a drug-induced psychosis such as Schizophrenia and he becomes addicted, he is more likely to experience a lifelong health issues. Thus by taking whatever pills, he is making his situation even worse. Therefore, if a person has already mental health problem or he or she is more vulnerable to it, he or she should be strongly discouraged from taking any pills without consulting his doctor.
Common Issues of Mental Heath due to Drug Abuse
Studies show that more than 50 percent of people who are having drug or alcohol addiction are prone to face mental illness. They experience several mental health problems such as-
•Depression- Any kind of addiction including alcohol often make people feeling sad and tired.
•Anxiety- They usually feel nervous, worried and scared.
•Bipolar Disorder- Due to addiction, most of the people experience sudden changes in their moods. There can be mood swings while sometimes they feel full of excitement and lots of energy and sometimes they feel hopeless and sad.
•ADHD- If such people do not treat their health and cognitive issues properly, they may suffer from attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder that makes them hard to sit still and pay attention to any work.
•Antisocial Personality Disorder- Patients in this case often feel hard to maintain good relationship with other people and they are unable to fit themselves in the society.
Whenever people suffer from any kind of cognitive illness due to abuse of any kind of medicine, there are numbers of solutions that will help them to get over from these problems.
•Withdrawal Programs- In order to treat the mental health issues, at first you need to concentrate on the necessary solution of drug abuse. There are several withdrawal programs offered the detoxification of any kind of addiction. These programs may be run either in the residential centers or among the community.
•Self Help- The problem of mental disorders can be cured by providing necessary supports for each other among the support groups.
•Counseling- Through counseling the tendency of medicine addiction can be avoided and people develop a new aspects of coping up the problems of life.
